Who We Are

15 Years ago, two college

freshmen sat in their dorm room and watched VHS movies instead of studying for engineering finals.  Today, those former slackers

make movies.

                    Go figure.

It all started in a cinder block bunker of a dorm room.
William Graves and Alex O. Gaynor attended the University of Kentucky sometime back in the 90s.  There was a bunkbed involved... and a 13inch tv/vhs combo.  After a year of devouring any vhs tape they could get their hands on, Alex made the ill-fated decision to skip an engineering final in an attempt to make a short horror movie.  William, who had already finished his own finals, was happy to help Alex indulge in his procrastination/love of filmmaking.  Alex did not finish the horror film, nor did he become an engineer.  Luckily, he did become a filmmaker.
After a decade apart, and with a handfull of feature film credits between them, the old roommates reunited to create an exciting production company that blends their various skillsets with their love of cinema.  Aptly named after the tiny dorm room/cell block that started it all, D214 Films was formed.

In 2014, William helped executive produce the film HITS, starring Matt Walsh (TED, THE HANGOVER), Michael Cera (SUPERBAD, JUNO) and Julia Stiles (BOURNE TRILOGY) and directed by David Cross (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT).  HITS premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.  In the Spring, William's next film, SEQUOIA, premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX and starred Aly Michalka (EASY A), Dustin Milligan (EXTRACT), and Demetri Martin (LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN).  Billy joined forces again with Aly Michalka, and her sister AJ Michalka (Super8), for the upcoming movie WEEPAH WAY FOR NOW.
